The Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, John James Usanga, has described comments attributed to him on social and traditional media by a group regarding the 2023 presidential elections as fake and false.

Ambassador Usanga in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists, berated the group known as Board of Trustees of the National Executive Committee Members of the Rivers State and the Rivers State Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Coalition” for fabricating lies against him.

He said the only statement he issued about the election was a congratulatory message extended to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I have never at any point in time had a discussion much less grant an interview to any person, news media or group of persons regarding the outcome of the 2023 Presidential Elections, other than the congratulatory messages extended to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

He called on Nigerians to disregard the report, describing it as false and fake.

He also called on security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the fake news, while his lawyers take necessary steps to address defamation of his character.

The statement read in part: “My attention has been drawn to the post on YouTube and other news channels by a faceless group of individuals going by the name ‘the Board of Trustees of the National Executive Committee Members of the Rivers State and the Rivers State Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Coalition’ hosted by the so-called Rivers State Chapter tagged “Nigeria Judiciary, Save our Democracy.

“I, John James Usanga, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Cape Verde, unequivocally and totally deny, refute, disown, and controvert the statement ascribed to me on the said YouTube and other news channels.
“I have never at any point in time had a discussion much less grant an interview to any person, news media or group of persons regarding the outcome of the 2023 Presidential Elections, other than the congratulatory messages extended to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in my Statement in the public domain for winning the election.
“I therefore implore the general public to disregard the fake news as broadcast by the news channel of YouTube or other news channels for what it is, fake and totally false. Consequently, I call upon all the relevant security agencies to deploy all resources at their disposal to fish out the purveyors of this fake news while I take the necessary steps with my lawyers to address the defamation of my character.”
