Pomp and funfair welcomed the tour of the Unity Torch of the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival as it arrived Kaduna on Tuesday.
The carnival-like tour saw the rally take off from the Ahmadu Bello stadium, through junction road, Ali Akilu way, to the Murtala Square, where it was presented to the Commissioner for Sports Development, Prof. Kabir Mato, by the Zonal Coordinator, North West Zone, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Olusola Luke.
The rally featured brilliant displays from various sporting federations in the state, with the cycling federation stealing the show.
The zonal coordinator, in an interview, told sports writers that they were happy with the colourful rally organised by the Kaduna state government. “It was a spectacular tour. We got more than we asked for, we got the bid for the next NSF and a colourful rally,” he said.
He said the torch signifies unity and brings people together.
“We have been able to publicise the NSF with the torch and people came out of their shops to cheer the rally,” he added.
On the next tour for the torch, Olusola Luke said it would go to all the North West states. “From here the torch goes to Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto then Kebbi states,” he said.
