The Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Kenneth Minimah, has reaffirmed his commitment to the prompt payment of all welfare entitlements to the retired and fallen heroes .He made this statement through the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited, Major General Bitrus Kwaji, while performing presentation ceremony of cheques to the Next of Kin (NOK) of the deceased Nigeria army Personnel who were recently killed in action in the ongoing operation in the North-east. The ceremony took place at the Headquarters of Nigerian Army Welfare Limited/Guaranteed, Abuja recently.
Kwaji stated that the chief of Army staff is passionate to ensuring that troops welfare is given a top priority in the area of prompt payment of entitlements. He said this occasion would serve a dual purpose to commiserate with the families of the deceased as well as presenting cheques to them to give a succour pending full payment of their entitlements which he advised them to follow up with Military Pensions Board. He told the occasion that three categories of entitlements were ready for payment to the NOK which included Nigerian Army welfare Insurance Scheme (NAWIS), Benevolent Fund (Ben FUND) and Life Insurance Policy. The GMD advised the beneficiaries to make proper use of the money given to them. He also enjoined Commanders to document personnel properly to avoid delay in payment as according to him, welfare is a command responsibility which the Chief of Army Staff upholds to his chest. He further informed the occasion that NAWIS is positioned to cater for the yearnings and aspirations of personnel.
Responding on behalf of the NOK, the wife of late Major General Adamu Buba Marwa, Khadiza, thanked the Nigerian Army for its concern for their welfare which she applauded the NA for this feat. She further said that she will forever be grateful to NA.
Highlights of the presentation ceremony were observation of one-minute silence for the repose of the deceased officers and men as well as presentation of cheques to no fewer than 10 NOKs by the group managing director.
