COAS charges officers to imbibe maintenance culture

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has charged personnel of the Nigerian Army to always ensure maintenance of Nigerian Army property.
The Army boss gave the charge when he commissioned remodeled student officers accommodation at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI), Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State.
The student officers accommodation commissioned by the COAS include hostels for Company Commanders Course (CCC), Commanding Officers’ Course (COC) and Young Officers’ Course.

The Chief of Army Staff, who was represented by the Chief of Logistics, Maj. Gen. PAT Akem, said the move by the army to rehabilitate its facilities across the country was to improve the welfare of its personnel for higher performance.
He said: “On assuming office last year I had a tour of our formations and units across the country, and it revealed to me the deteriorating state of our accommodations and offices. In line with my vision, we began to embark on deliberate rehabilitation of our barracks, schools and offices, despite our lean resources.
“We will continue with this effort until our facilities are suitable for habitation. The rehabilitation of our training facilities is part of our strategies to improve the efficiency of our personnel.
“It is therefore an act of disservice if the facilities are not maintained. The need for the facilities to remain well habitable is the responsibility of all officers, especially the commandants.”
Earlier, while conducting the representative of the Chief of Army Staff round the Infantry House, Headquarters of the Infantry Corps, which was under renovation, Commander Infantry Corps, Maj. Gen.  Mohammed said the aim was acquaint the COAS of the level of completion of the project.
He thanked the COAS for his support toward rehabilitation of the Infantry Headquarters and the student officers’ quarters at the Jaji Cantonment, Kaduna,  as well as other projects in Nigerian Army formations and units across the country.
