The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), profoundly outraged over what it called the relentless killings of innocent Nigerians in Plateau state in the last few weeks, has demanded immediate and decisive action from the federal government to halt the bloodshed, protect vulnerable communities and bring perpetrators to justice.
In a statement by the National Coordinator of CNG on Friday, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the organisation said “The recent massacre in Plateau state where over 100 lives were brutally cut short, communities razed and families displaced represent a grotesque failure of governance.
“These killings are not isolated, but are part of a broader resurgence of violence across the North, including terrorist attacks by Boko Haram in the North-east, banditry in the North-west and ethno-religious clashes in the North-central”.
He decried the government’s poor response saying it has “emboldened killers, leaving citizens to question its commitment to their safety. For years, our communities have endured unending cycles of violence while the government issues hollow condolences and empty promises”.
The group rejected the normalisation of these tragedies and demanded accountability through result-oriented action.
.
“The government must adopt brutal efficiency to dismantle terror networks. All the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted, including sponsors of those attacks.
“The era of impunity must end immediately and permanently. Nigeria’s security framework must be overhauled to prioritize intelligence-driven operations, community engagement and collaboration with locals”, he said.
The coordinator further lamented that “We are tired of burying our children, mothers, and elders while the government looks the other way. Plateau’s agony is Nigeria’s shame.”
The group therefore demanded security reinforcement to all flashpoints in Plateau, Sokoto-Katsina-Zamfara axis and North-east to flush out bandits, crush regrouping terrorists and protect innocent civilians.
