CMD recovers N1.5bn corporate headquarters, trains 6, 000

Outgoing Director-General, Centre for Management Development, Dr. Kabir Kabo Usman, has revealed that the agency conducted an impact assessment programme for over 2,000 participants, and management training for another 4,000.
He also disclosed that under his watch, the agency bought N250 million (now worth N1.3 billion) property as office accommodation in Abuja, and also regained its N1.3 billion worth corporate headquarters in the Central Business District, Abuja.
Usman made the disclosures when he spoke to some journalists recently on his eight-year-stewardship at the centre, in Abuja.
The CMD boss is expected to bow out tomorrow (February 13,) after an eight-year-tenure.
Addressing newsmen on his achievements, he said: “We bought befitting office in Abuja at N250 million which is now worth N1.3 billion. We regained our corporate headquarters land in Abuja at CBD (Central Business District) which is worth N1.5 billion and set up PPP process to build it.
“We sent over 100 staff to overseas training to Ghana, China, Japan, UK, USA, India, Kenya, Dubai, Australia, South Korea, Singapore and Ethiopia, while also sent 48 staff on post graduates programmes both locally and abroad.”
The outgoing DG also recalled that under his watch, the agency accredited over 1,000 management consultants and 200 firms, giving them a 5-year renewable license, while also training over 4,000 participants, particularly from Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.
On establishment matters, the CMD boss said over 200 fresh staff members were appointed under his watch; 600 for confirmation, promotion advancement and conversion, two suspended, while no staff was dismissed.
Continuing, he said “the number of staff that resigned stood at five, and staff retirement is in accordance with the extant rule of 60 years of age, 35 years of service or served as a director for eight years as at then.”
Also, in a remark, the CMD’s Director of Administration, Bitrus D. Chinoko, commended the outgoing DG for weathering the storm amidst barrage of petitions.
He said “for the eight years, it took the grace of God this man remains till date. Having stayed in CMD for eight years, he has known Nigeria because CMD, as small as it is, is a macrocosm of Nigeria.”
