Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Jigawa state lead by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) have warned politicians against damaging utterances capable of throwing the nation into chaos.
Addressing a press conference against the 2015 elections yesterday in Dutse, Comrade Abdulganiyu Rufai, of CITAD warned that comments recently made by Governor Shehu Shema of Katsina and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers states among others were dangerous to the nascent democracy.
He said: “Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Shema recently delivered a classical hate speech in which he likened the opposition to cockroaches only worthy of being crushed.
“This was followed by a similar speech by Governor Rotimi Amaechi who said should the 2015 election is rigged, his party will form a parallel government. Both statements are capable of mobilising and catalysing people in preparation for violent actions.”
The CLOs further blamed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba, for his action aimed at stopping the Speaker of the House of Representatives as well as members of the opposition party from getting into the chamber of the House.
He debunked as lies street talks and insinuations that Shema is inciting PDP members to kill opposition members in the state as well as imposing candidates in the PDP, describing it as handiwork of ingrates and enemies of progress, in order to score cheap political points.
The youth leader called on the good people of Katsina state to disregard such blackmails, insinuations and rumours by opponents of Shema, and remain focused, supportive and ever ready to defend democratic values which the Shema administration represents.
