Clark to Nigerian leaders: Put national, above personal interests

Former Federal Commissioner for Information , Chief Edwin Clark , declared in Abuja on  Sunday that Nigeria would survive as an Independent Country despite series of challenges being faced in the journey of Nationhood .

Chief Clark who made the declaration in a lengthy written tribute on Hajia Dada Habi Yar’adua who died at the age of  102 last week , urged politicians across the various political parties, to put national interest above personal ones .

Specifically , Chief Clark in the tribute counseled Alhaji Abubakar Atiku to practice politics with good conscience and morality.

He wondered why Atiku visited the Yar’Adua family over the demise of their matriarch who according to him , was not honoured by him while alive  , going by electoral litigation he slammed against the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2007 despite advice given to him against such action .

“I have great confidence in the survival of this country with trust for one and other, and there are many notable Nigerians in this category who genuinely and sincerely believe in the loss or gains to the family of the dead or citizens they paid such visit.

“This is the group I wholeheartedly believes in at any age when it pleases God Almighty to call me home. Finally, as an aged father, I must continue to caution this Presidential aspirant  to practice politics with good conscience and morality.

” They should always place the interest of Nigerians who are suffering from all manner of  ills  in the society above their personal ambitions.

“On a lighter note, the success of the Super Eagles over Benin Republic helps me to recover from my health condition on Saturday 8th, 2024. That is the country we want irrespective of our region or states we come from”, he said .

To  the Yar’Adua family , Chief Edwin Clark said, “As I stated earlier in my own condolence letter, Hajia Rabi Yar’Adua, was a woman of great wisdom, compassion and enduring spirit who has led an indelible act for whom has led the honour of knowing her as a great woman.

“She raised several distinguished statesmen including; Maj. Gen. Shehu Musa Yar’Ardua, Umaru Musa Yar’adua GCFR, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua etc.”
