The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has launched an e-commerce platform called ShopB Africa, designed to boost trade across Africa.
The platform, created by four young people from Itas Local Government Area of Bauchi state, was officially launched at CITAD’s headquarters in Kano, on Thursday.
In his remarks at the event, CITAD’s Executive Director, Engr. Yunusa Zakari Ya’u, explained that the platform aims to assist small business owners in marketing their products online at an affordable rate.
“The creation of this online platform, ShopB.Africa, will provide small business owners with opportunities and ease, enabling them to register their businesses without creating a website or requiring special expertise in e-commerce,” he said.
“It’s a special platform where you can easily upload your products, list your goods, and connect with customers across Africa.”
Nura Said, the leader of four young innovators from Itas community in Bauchi state, said “The platform gives both small and large companies the opportunity to create an e-commerce website in just five minutes.”
“ShopB.Africa is a platform designed to provide entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses with the opportunity to use the internet in Africa or outside Africa.”
“It’s an opportunity for them to create their own website without needing extensive computer knowledge, and within a few minutes, they can set up their payment system.”
“Therefore, all the difficulties associated with e-commerce on this platform have been made easy,” said Sa’id.
The launch of ShopB.Africa is part of CITAD’s efforts to use technology to support small businesses, particularly in underserved communities.
