Women under the auspices of Otu Odu- Eze (Wives of Enugwu-Ukwu Cabinet Chiefs), Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra state, have donated food items worth N5 million to indigent widows for Christmas and New Year festivities.
The food items which included bags of rice, beans, ingredients, cash gifts, among others were handed down to the widows at the group’s annual meeting held at Enugwu-Ukwu.
Speaking at the occasion, the group’s President, Chief Dora Ekpeh, who is also the wife of Enugwu-Ukwu monarch, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, said the palliatives were part of their support in building a healthy and living community members.
According to Ekpeh, the women group had supported over 3,000 indigent widows of the community in the total of their fifth year of the exercise with a view to building a better society.
Also speaking, the Deputy President of the group, Chief Edith Anaekwe, added that they use the forum in supporting their husbands and traditional custodian in development of the community by building families economically and otherwise.
