Chinese coy to commence 3000MW power project in Kogi

 

The President, PowerChina International Group Ltd, Mr Song Dongsheng has expressed the readiness of his company to commence the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Kogi state government for the establishment of 3000 megawatts power project in the state.
Dongsheng who said this on Sunday when he visited Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, at his private residence on Sunday in Abuja, said the meeting was a followup to the MoU on the projects.
He requested that a technical team on the side of the Kogi State Government be set up immediately before the arrival of PowerChina’s Technical Team, scheduled to arrive the state in two weeks time.
He explained that the MOU comprises of two projects; a 2,400MW coal-fired power generating plant and a 600MW hydro-powered plant , urged the state government to quickly identify the two sites.
The visit by the head of the Chinese company was to discuss modalities for implementating the MoU that was signed during the just concluded Kogi Economic and Investment Summit,
Responding , Governor Bello assured that his governments’ readiness to safeguard the lives of the personnel, equipment and investment of the company within the borders of the state.
He disclosed that a technical team has already been already been set up and the sites already identified in readiness for the commencement of the projects, stressing that electricity is key to his administration’s plans to make the state an economic hub.
It will be recalled that the 3,000 megawatts MoU was one of the seven that the state government signed with various investors over the two-day economic and political investment summit held recently in the state.
