Chieftain wants PDP BoT to retain Atiku for 2023 presidency

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain from Adamawa state has urged the party’s leadership not to search for a fresh candidate for the party ahead of the 2023 presidential elections, noting that Atiku Abubakar will suffice.

Dr Sani Adamu, Founder of deservation.org, in an open letter to the party titled Open Letter to the BoT Chairman & National Chairman of the PDP on the Party’s Presidential Candidate come 2023 – Return Of The Pukka’ said, “my attention was drawn to a statement on the social media credited to BoT chairman of PDP; that PDP shall soon embark on a nationwide search for a presidential candidate to fly the party’s flag come 2023.

“In that statement, he was reported to have said that Dr. Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election actually won the election, if it had been a free and fair contest, consequently, the duo did not fail the party in any way. If that be the case, I am then befuddled by the statement credited to the Chairman BoT, that our party is embarking on a search for presidential flag bearer.
“By your admission, Atiku won the 2019 presidential election and so the search for another team, candidate or flag bearer for the PDP is not really necessary, what is needed now is for the leadership of the party to rally round Atiku and map out strategies to devastate the APC in 2023,” he said.

“While the 2019 presidential election and the attendant consequences are yet to be understood by the party faithful, the 2023 permutation has since began, even by the party that controls government. The 2019 presidential election was in reality, won by the PDP’s presidential candidate in the person of the Waziri of Adamawa Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate Mr. Peter Obi,” he said.
He said he was compelled by facts and figures that the search should not go beyond the winning team of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
“I will like to say that no coach changes a winning team in the middle of a league, no general changes a battle hardened squad in an ongoing war. We don’t need to change a winning team! Shortly after the 2019 presidential jostle, independent observers, political pundits and analysts were united on one fact,  that Atiku and Obi polled a total of 18, 356,732 votes to defeat Buhari whom they said scored 16 ,741, 430 votes.
“The international observers from different countries agreed that Atiku of the PDP had beaten the incumbent president, Muhammad Buhari hands down. If that was, and is still the case, embarking on a search for another Presidential flag bearer is not only futile but tantamount to decapitating the party and returning it back to the days of yore.
“My take is that if the Atiku/Obi can trounce the seeming almighty behemoth of Buhari and the All Progressive Congress, APC, in 2019, it can do so again and again. One is also compelled to remind you of the fractured and rancorous state that the PDP found itself in 2015-2018 before Atiku returned back to reposition and rejuvenate the party before 2019 general election.”
