A former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, has said that the military cannot level Sambisa Forest where the abducted Chibok girls are believed to be kept by the Boko Haram because of the need to protect the girls and at the same time avoid committing genocide by the military.
Gana stated this yesterday in Minna in an interview with journalists at the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion.
He said: “I believing that if the military were to engage the terrorists squarely, it will not take days for them to level the sambisa forests where the insurgents currently keep the Chibok girls. If the soldiers level the Sambisa Forest, what happens to the girls we are trying to rescue safely? What will the Human Rights Organisations say about genocide? The military will be accused of committing genocide.”
Gana, who is also a member of the National Delegates Conference, said the confab had recommended the repositioning of the police to be able to tackle the current security challenges in the country.
He argued that with the population of the country currently hovering between 160 million and 170 million, people required quality and large number of policemen to be able to face the current security challenges facing the country squarely.
He said the confab had recommended the proper reform of the police and the armed forces with training and re-training programmes that would prepare them to face the insurgency in the country headlong.
