Disturbed by the abduction of over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno state, by Boko Haram members, Christian lawmakers in the country, under the aegis of Christian Legislators Fellowship International (CLFI), yesterday turned to God for direction in ensuring the eventual release of the girls.
The legislators also prayed for God’s wisdom and divine guidance on President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his cabinet in taking the best steps on the issue which had triggered widespread anger and protests globally.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the President of the CLFI, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, the lawmakers lamented the security challenges confronting Nigeria and described it as “a watershed in the history of Nigeria.”
The Christian legislators also expressed optimism that the foreign military intervention would put an end to the increasing fears caused by the activities of insurgents in the country.
They urged the entire citizenry to pray and fast for the speedy resolution of the security challenges in the country, especially the abduction of the students of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state.
They commended the government, the military and security agencies for their aimed at recovering the abducted girls from the grips of the terrorists, stressing that “all hands should be on the deck to make the foreign supports a success.”
The legislators further expressed the hope that the involvement of the governments of America, Britain, China, and Canada amongst others in the search for the missing girls would yield positive results.
The Fellowship said: “We, therefore, call on Nigerians to arise and pray that the God of all creation will sustain the nation, and grant our leaders, the wisdom to take appropriate decisions that we rescue our people who are currently entrapped in fears.
“The cooperation of all concern is also needed to build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.”
It also implored its members to intensify prayers for the growth and expansion of the six-year old group which is already established in 21 out of the 36 states of the federation.
“CLFI is a platform where legislators and staff are nurtured as watchmen in the onerous task of nation building.”
