Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Hon. Yahaya Garba Gawu, has called for more funding of the area councils in the territory.
He said more funds for the councils would enable their officials to embark on people-oriented projects.
He said the current “dwindling allocation” was seriously affecting budget performance at the councils.
Gawu made this assertion while presenting a paper titled: “An Overview of Area Council administration Achievement and Challenges 2013” at a retreat organised by the Area Councils Service Commission for top executive and departmental heads of the councils.
The chairman noted that the area councils were faced with challenges bothering on provision of basic necessities of life, reduction of poverty, creation of wealth, protection of lives and property, among others.
He said the councils were endowed with potential, and called on investors to take come and investment.
