Certificate of return: We need to retain Edo for PDP, Ighodalo begs Shaibu, others

The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, Mr Asue Igohdalo, has pleaded with other aggrieved aspirants in the just concluded primaries in the state to join him in his quest to retain Edo for the party.

The candidate, who expressed his readiness to run an all inclusive government if elected in September, lauded Omosede Igbinedion for stepping down for him.

The candidate, who emerged at the primary election conducted by the Governor Daudu Lawal of Zamfara, charged the aggrieved persons to embrace peace and work for the party’s success.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier fixed the governorship election for September 21 this year.

Speaking at the certificate presentation ceremony at the party’s National Secretariat on Tuesday, Ighodalo also thanked the National Working Committee (NWC), party elders, women and youth for a successful primary.

He said, “I am extremely proud to be a member of this party. I’m grateful to the party, NWC for ensuring fairness, for its transparency and open handedness to all.

“The women gave me the wing to fly and put me at their back.

“My co-aspirant that stepped down before the process, particularly, Omosede, who did on the day of primary.

“For other aspirants, I keep begging that we work together as one team and unite to retain Edo PDP. I promise you that this is for all of us. You are all strong men and women with ability and capacity to deliver.

“I, the NWC, elders and concerned party men will continue to beg you to give peace a chance and give your support going forward,” Ighodalo said.

While carrying out the presentation of the certificate of return, the acting national Chairman of the party, Amb. Umar Damagum, said the party had fulfilled all righteousness to arrive here, saying the most important thing now was to win the election.

“Edo is PDP, but you still have a daunting task before us. Let Edo be an easy ride for us. Ighodalo is a good brand with a good party.

“Let me also say this; PDP is one, we had one primary in Edo, We sent an electoral panel, election held and candidate in person of Ighodalo emerged.

“We are not aware of any parallel election outside the one that produced Ighodalo,” Damagum added.
