CBN receives 10,000 complaints, refunds N51bn

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said it has successfully verifi ed and refunded over N51 billion to their rightful owners who in one way or the other had problems during their transaction with commercial banks. Th is was stated by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications Department of the apex bank, Isaac Okorafor at the sensitization lecture recently organized for the general public on promoting fi nancial stability and economic development in Dutse, Jigawa state capital. Okorafor, who was represented by the Communications Offi cer of the bank, Sam Okogbue explained that “9,600 and 403 complaints against commercial Banks and other fi nancial institutions have been successfully processed, while over N15 billon, $17.5 million, €24,800 and £6000 were refunded”.

According to him that in the last seven years, the Central Bank has received over 10,000 complaints from members of the public against commercial banks and other fi nancial institutions on cases related to fraud, dispensing of cheques among others. “If your naira notes burn to ashes, park the ashes, enveloped it and bring it to any branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria. It will be forwarded to our head offi ce for test and analysis which will reveals the value of the money destroyed. Th e bank will replace same value of money for the victim”. He therefore warned that “Don’t squeeze it, don’t be dancing on it, don’t hold it with dirty hands and don’t be playing with it any how. And do not be responding to any text massage asking for your pin or any other confi dential information.”
