CBN commends NeFF for transforming payment system

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has commended the Nigeria electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF) for its efforts in transforming the payment environment since its creation in 2011.
The apex bank said that in last four years NeFF has responded to the dynamic environment and ensuring that Nigerians are not only protected, restored public confidence in the system.
Deputy Governor, Operations, Suleiman Barau, who made this remark in Lagos at the NeFF dinner.

Commend NeFF’s collaborative efforts aimed at cementing a relationship with law enforcement agencies. He specifically mentioned a high profile visit to IGP, Solomon Arase, which he said received a huge boost when the IGP ordered immediate establishment of dedicated e-payment in the Nigeria Police at the instance of CBN and NeFF.
In the same vein, he noted that the Chief Justice of Nigeria was visited by the forum and the visit has also strengthened relationship with the Judiciary, adding that the two institutions gave the forum constructive recommendations which it will follow.
“NeFF has been a formidable force in fighting fraud during the year 2015. The risk information centre is yet another initiative that was discussed in this forum and is currently receiving management attention and it will come to light”, he said.

“In the year to come, we look forward to further collaboration and initiative that will curb incidence of fraud within the industry. Your collaborative eddort has reduced electronic fraud in the industry and thid will continue to be appreciated. It is heart-warming to see that as the e-payment increase in year 2015, there is a reduction in the e-fraud recorded. CBN will give necessary support and guidelines”.

Also speaking, director, banking and payments department, CBN Dipo Fatokun, said the Nigerian Electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF) has disclosed a plan to set up an electronic fraud risk information centre
Fatokun who is also the Chairman of NeFF, said a committee to drive the process of establishing the centre had already submitted a report on the proposal. The move, he stressed would help checkmate the activities of fraudsters and cyber crime.
