A Senior Magistrates’ Court in Life Camp, Abuja, yesterday sentenced a car wash attendant, David Yacham, 27, to 60 days in prison for negligent conduct.
The magistrate, Mr Zubairu Muhammed, sentenced the accused who resides at No 18, 3rd Avenue Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Muhammed, however, granted him an option of N2, 000 fine.
He said the court granted the convict an option of fine because he did not have a criminal record.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, told the court that Mr Nnamdi Ajah of No 11B Immigration Quarters, Karu, Abuja, lodged a report at Gwarinpa Police Station.
Idi said on June 7, at about 2:51 p.m., the complainant, who had to go out, gave the keys of the gate to his house to the convict to keep for him.
He said the convict entered the house and carelessly left the gate open and some thieves went into the compound.
The prosecutor said the thieves stole 14 pieces of iron scaffold, 12 pieces of aluminum frames, 28 pieces of sliding window glasses and a water heater from the compound.
When Yacham was questioned, he could not give satisfactory account of the stolen items, the prosecutor said. (NAN)
