Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Ibadan South West local government area of Oyo state, Hon. Tahoeed Bolaji Adeleke, yesterday said the call for scrapping of local governments in Nigeria was anti-masses.
Adeleke stated this during a chat with members of the Oyo NUJ correspondents chapel on activities of his local government in the last 45 months after a prayer session on his re-appointment by into office by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
He said there was no basis for such a call if the masses, especially those at the grassroots, were to reap real dividends of democracy, considering the closeness of local government administration to the people.
He said: “Local government is more than important to the people at the grassroots. You know it is not everybody that can be going to the state secretariat for one thing or the other, but as you can see, people are always free to come to us here and feel the impact of government through the local government as we are here representing the state government.”
On the forthcoming general elections in 2015, Adeleke said no conspiracy by politicians in Oyo state could stop Governor Ajimobi from winning the governorship election, considering his good performance.
