Bwari council unfolds new agric programmes

By Donald Iorchir Bwari area council has unfolded new agriculture programmes to boost farming within the area and the entire Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Its Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Water Resources, Hon. Makama Kawu, while speaking to Blueprint the weekend, disclosed that the present chairman had established agric farm as well as introduction of diff erent varieties of crops. He said the farm, which is fi rst if its kind since the creation of Bwari area council and located in Kawu community, would enable the farmers to know more about new farming techniques and create employment for others.

He also said its establishment would help many farmers to have knowledge of how best to cultivate and plant crops that could benefi t them. “Most of the farmers don’t know how to grow some crops, but with this programme many of them will be trained on all kinds of farming activities,” he said. He assured the farmers of the Council’s commitment to promoting better agric policies that would enhance bomber harvest, and provide employment for the unemployed natives.

Kawu said the initiative was in line with the present administration’s resolve to diversify the economy, and disclosed that plans were underway to distribute fertilisers to genuine farmers in the area. “Th is farm is to make people have more interest in farming and know the right approach to adopt in growing crops.” According to him, the new farm at present is being manned by some staff of the Council
