Businessman in court for breach of trust, fraud

The Police in the FCT have arraigned an Abuja based businessman, Abdulhameed Saidu, 33, before a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over charges of alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecutor, Mr. Yusuf Auta, told the court that one Baffa El-yakub of Lamido Tourist Kano wrote a petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja.
He said that sometime in May 2013, the accused, under false pretence as a car dealer, collected El-yakub’s Peugeot 407 saloon car valued at N1.5million for sale.

Auta said that the accused didn’t pay the complainant the money as agreed.
He said that the complainant made effort to collect his car back but the accused gave him the sum of N500, 000.
The prosecutor said that the accused also issued the complainant with two dud cheques of N500, 000 each.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code Law which stipulated three years in prison or with fine or both as punishment for offenders.
The Magistrate, Miss Binta Dogonyaro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties and adjourned the case until May 15.
