Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has stated that his administration would continue to provide funds to ensure sustainability of Biomedical Research Training Center (BioRTC) of Yobe State University.
He said the funding would cover equipment, maintenance and research projects to enable the Centre to meet the desired international standard.
The governor made the assertion on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of 14th Conference and General Assembly Meeting of Nigerian Young Academy held at the University in Damaturu.
Represented by his Deputy,Idi Barde Gubana, the governor also presented awards to youths from different parts of the state for excellence in science, research and innovation worth two million Naira (#2,000,000).
Earlier in his remarks, the Director and Founder of BioRTC, Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina, who doubled as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Research,Science and Innovation, said the awards were given based on the earlier call for applications tagged: “Yobe State Research and Innovation Challenge 2024” which was announced in January 2024.
The award categories includes; Brilliant Innovations and Top Research Paper Award.
Dr Maina revealed that the selection was as a result of detailed presentations and a thorough review by expert judges; where Mohammed Auwal from Bursari Local Government Area emerged as the winner in Brilliant Innovations, Muhammad Mustapha from Geidam Local Government Area securing the second spot, and Adamu Aliyu from Nangere Local Government Area taking third place.
He further explained that the other categories of the award winners were selected after receiving numerous submissions of high-caliber research papers.
He said each paper underwent an extensive review to assess its eligibility, significance in the field, and the contribution of the authors.
The winners are Idi Mohammed from Yobe State University, followed by Mohammed Bukar Maina, also from Yobe State University, in second place, and Harisu Abdullahi Shehu who received an honorary award for his outstanding research contributions from the diaspora.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof.Mala Mohammed Daura, commended Buni for his continued support to BioRTC and the University in general.
