BUK to honour Barau, Adesina at 38th convocation


Bayero University Kano is to award Honorary Doctorate Degrees to the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin and the President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adeshina, during its 38th convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, 2nd March, 2024.

The vice chancellor of the university,  Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the preparations for the forthcoming convocation.

He said the decision to honour the awardees was aimed at complementing their efforts in supporting their community and the Nation at large.

Prof. Abbas said during the convocation, scheduled to begin from the 27th of February, 180 students would graduate with First Class Honours.

“During the convocation ceremony, no fewer than 180 students will graduate with first class degrees. 

“Similarly, during the convocation, 370 post graduate students will be graduating with PhDs and 3,770 others are going out with Masters Degrees,” he said. 

The vice chancellor noted that this year, the university is introducing stager convocation to ensure that every student feels the impact of his graduation.

He stated that this year, the university is graduating a total of 11, 284 students that cut across different faculties and departments. 

The vice chancellor added that African business mogul, Aliko Dangote would deliver a lecture titled: ‘The Role of Private Sector in Building a Sustainable Economy in Nigeria.’

Prof. Sagir said the university is currently having 379 professors, with 18 faculties and 16 research centers.
