Professor of Science Education at the University of Abuja, Emmanuel Ndan Danaladi, has described President Muammadu Buhari as a symbol of honesty and integrity, but regretted that those working with him are a direct opposite of their leader.
Prof Danladi, while delivering a lecture on “Leadership by Example: The Nigerian Experience”, organised by Merit International, a media and branding group at the Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, said “the sleaze in the All Progressives Congress (APC) government could continue to haunt the positive intentions of Buhari because members of his cabinet are working at cross purpose with the president.
“The Nigerian President is a symbol of honesty; unfortunately, those around him have problem emulating him. Until we all do what we areexpected to do, Nigeria will remain in the woods,” he said.
The cerebral academic who took time to explore leadership theories in his drive to propound the best leader for the country, agreed with the late Prof Chinua Achebe that Nigeria’s problem is that of leadership, saying however that the country would have gotten it right under the Buhari regime had those working with the president taken to his principled vision to transform the country.
He decried what he called “the over politicisation of the Nigerian state, especially the struggle for power, influence and patronage which has given birth to a predatory political class that is only concerned with power struggle, consolidation, alignment and realignment in the context of hegemonic control.”
National coordinator of Merit International, Mr. Sunday Okwu in aremark, commended the participants for identifying with theorganisation and pledged to continue to educate Nigerians with the series of lectures that will prepare them for leadership.
Distinguished Nigerians, including Amb Wadibia Anyanwu, Stella Ugwa,Bala Joshua and Jonathan Agbor were given various awards by themedia/brand outfit for their contributions to humanity.
