Buhari: How a country moulds a President

How is Buhari’s Nigeria? It’s the Oduduwa republic on the south side craving for an opportunity to reclaim their lost voice in governance. They broker a deal with the northern political oligarchy and form an alliance that should further this cause.

It’s the Creeks of the Niger Delta where Deltans are aggrieved that their Otuoke prince was disallowed a second term in office. It is the hopeful but strained North-East which voted enmasse for Buhari as their last best chance for ending insurgency but which has otherwise witnessed a gruesome catalogue of 25 Boko Haram attacks in Buhari’s 38days of taking over power.

The attacks are as follows: May 3oth-13 killed during an attempted night invasion of Maiduguri.May 30th-26 killed in bomb attack on a mosque near Borno market. May 31st- 4killed at Gamboru market Maiduguri. June 2nd-17killed at Maiduguri abattoir and June 3rd-4 killed in attack on mechanical workshop on Baga road.

The timeline continues: June4th-Female suicide bomber kills two near military checkpoint in Maiduguri.June5th-40killed in suicide attack on Jimeta night market. June 7th-3 killed in suicide attack on Baga/Monguno highway.June11th- 37 killed in separate attacks on six Borno villages. June 15th-twin suicide bomb attacks kill 11 persons in Potiskum. June 17th-accidental explosion kills 15persons in Monguno and June22nd- 8killed in twin suicide attacks on Baga Fish market,Maiduguri.

That is not the only statistic in the killing spree on June23rd-15 people were killed in suicide bomb attack on Nannawaji village, Gujiba.June23rd-20 people were killed in an attack on Debiro Hawul.June27-5 were killed at General hospital Molai Borno, state. July 7th-26 killed by suicide bomber in Sabon gari local government secretariat, Kaduna state as civil servants engage in a verification exercise. July 7th-female suicide bomber launches deadly attack at military checkpoint in Borno kills 4.If we do the Maths, we would have a conservative figure of 561 people killed by Boko Haram in PMB’S 38days of taking over power.

Nigeria is a place that breeds quick political fixes at a national scale. The country’s dire need is security. The myths surrounding our security anathema are many.As varied as are the presumptions so are the fallacies. The blame school of thought propounds a theory that says the north is being destroyed by enemies of the north. The fallacy reflects the bombers and the victims as northerners. The religious bigotry school of thought reasons a north sought to be islamised.

Facts reveal that churches and mosques are being attacked and religious leaders of both divides are serially killed. The antagonist philosophy states that the north sought to make Nigeria ungovernable for former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The reality is that Buhari’s first 38days in office have been worse off in security indices when compared to GEJ’S last month in office in which there appeared to be a mop up of the Insurgency carnage.
