Bribery allegation: Disquiet as NFF lifts ban on Coach Salisu Yusuf

The Nigeria Football Federation has lifted the suspension placed on Coach Salisu Yusuf after serving the mandatory term.

The federation in a terse statement Thursday said, “the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf has now fully served the one –year suspension clamped on him last year”  but it was not clear as at press time whether he will return fully to the Super Eagles.

Yusuf was handed a one-year ban after a video of him surfaced receiving $1,000 bribe to influence players’ list.

The Ethics and Fair Play Committee of the federation investigated Salisu, after he was filmed by a Ghanaian investigative reporter, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, receiving bribe to file two players, Osas Okoro and Rabiu Ali, in the 2018 CHAN Competition in Morocco.

The federation also directed Yusuf to pay a fine of $5,000 within three months, just as he has been asked to stay away from football-related activities, while the ban lasts.
