Breaking: Woman’s entire cash savings burnt as fire engulfs building in Nasarawa

A raging inferno gut down a residential building located at Oversea neighbourhood, Nasarwa town, an area in the same domain with the state water board in Nasarawa local government area of Nasarawa state, Thursday morning. 

A victim of the inferno, an igbo Business woman, simply called Mama Chi, by her neighbours, who refused to be consoled had kept all her life savings in the house where she was a tenant.

However, when her husband who was not present when the fire started arrived at the scene, he bravely rushed into their room and brought out tens of thousands of N500 notes the wife kept inside a rice bag, though  some of the notes had been burnt beyond recognition. 

The house was said to belong to Alhaji Lawal Maimagi, a successful businessman in Nasarawa town.

The cause of the fire was an electrical spark from the meter in the house. Sympathisers said the fire started from the meter panel in the house and spread to the ceiling.

Before the fire service men came amid insults from the neighbours, serious destruction had been done.

According to the neighbours, Baba Chi, husband of the woman who was crying uncontrollably, the family refused to learn a lesson by continuing to keep money at home.

They said few years ago, a scammer went to their little daughter at home, demanded that the money kept by her father be handed over to him on account of business transaction they had in the market.

The innocent girl handed over N1.5 million to the scammer and the man disappeared into thin air.

Efforts to speak to the house owner proved abortive as the victims were yet to relieve from the shock.
