Breaking: Tension as Police gun down one in Jos

There is palpable tension in Naraguta Village, a suburb around Jos, Plateau state capital following alleged killing of one Babangida Saidu Adam by Police men.

The Police Public Relation Officer, Plateau state command, ASP Ubah Ogaba, confirmed the incident.

He said the deputy commissioner of police and the Divisional Police Officer arrived the scene immediately.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred when a combined team of Mobil Police and joint military task force led some youths on the authority of University of Jos management went to demolish property in the community.

An eye witness, Auwal Adam, told our correspondent, “We were inside our house in the morning, we heard that some youths assigned by the University of Jos, with cover by the police and some soldiers have come and are destroying houses.”

“We were standing with Babangida Saidu Adam, he was holding his small child and telling our youths to go back, then the police shot at him, by the waist.

“He was rushed to Plateau hospital, where he died.”

Member representing Jos North in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Baba Hassan, also at the scene said, “the situation where security led some youths to destroy people’s property, even when the matter is still in court was unfortunate.

“I was informed that the deceased was standing with one boy, and was suddenly shot by the security for just no reason whatsoever.”

An elder brother to the deceased, Musa Shaibu Jagab said: “The deceased was shot by the combined security operatives around 10am when he was standing in front of his house holding his small child.

“My younger brothers rushed him to the Plateau Hospital, where I met them and was confirmed dead.

“Look at his corpse, and even as at now they are still shooting and injuring our youths who don’t carry arms. They are also burning and destroying our homes in a land matter that is before the court of law.”
