Breaking: Moon sighted as Ramadan begins Monday in Nigeria

“His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has authorized me to inform the general public that Ramadan crescent was sighted in different locations in Nigeria this evening , compilation of more results is going on. Taraweeh prayers can commence, he will make an official declaration shortly.

“The Ramadan crescent has been sighted in Nigeria. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, is expected to make an official announcement soon.

The sighting of the moon signals the official commencement of fasting for Muslims in Nigeria.”

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Secretary-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) confirmed the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan in some states in Nigeria.

Oloyede said the formal announcement of the commencement of 2019 Ramadan fast will be made later tonight by His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.
The NSCIA scribe confirmed the sighting of the moon in Sokoto, Kebbi and Yobe states and wish the Muslims happy Ramadan fast.

Saudi Arabia also sighted the Ramadan crescent at Hotat Sudair Observatory on Sunday
