Breaking: Lecturer commits suicide in University of Ibadan


A lecturer II in the Department of Mathematics University of Ibadan, identified as Mr A.O Subair  has reportedly committed suicide

Blueprint learnt that Subair who hailed from Kaduna state set himself on fire on Monday afternoon in his senior staff quarters located at Phillipson road of the University.

Our reporter gathered that the late University lecturer had recently resigned from the University without a justifiable reason but was yet to evacuate his staff quarter’s.

Late Subair was said to have  separated from his family and had challenges progressing on his careers

Speaking on the incident, the  Chairman Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan chapter,  Professor Deji Omole described it as pathetic and that it was a major loss to the Union.

According to the ASUU Chairman, the Union was only informed of the burning flat while efforts to save him proved abortive.

Professor Omole then urged members of the Union to confide in one another saying isolation could deepen depression which may culminate in suicidal ideation.

The late Subair was survived by three children and  has been buried at Akinyele public cemetry
