A decomposing body of the member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency at Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka, has been found at a bush near 2nd Niger Bridge.
Blueprint gathered that the corpse was recovered at the bush on Wednesday night following arrest of the culprits by a joint security team during which they were led to the spot where it was dumped.
Justice, a chieftain of Labour Party (LP), who regained his mandate from Court of Appeal in 2023 was kidnapped on December 24, 2024 along Ugwunabakpa Road Inland town Onitsha while returning home for Christmas.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, a Superintendent of Police, while confirming the report said that he was recovered in early hours of Thursday February 6, 2025 by Joint Security team comprising of police and Anambra Vigilante Operatives on a rescue mission.
“The Joint Security team comprising of Police and AVG Operatives on a mission to rescue abducted Hon. Azuka, Honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene. As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated, as the joint security team have taken over the scene and operation is ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspects involved,” he added.
Azuka is second serving lawmaker to be killed in kidnappers’ den after Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, the member representing Aguata 1 Constituency where governor Chukwuma Soludo hails from who was killed by his abductors in 2022.
A former lawmaker, Hon. Nelson Achukwu, that represented Nnewi South II from 2003 to 2007 was also Kidnapped and killed by his abductors in June 2022.
