Breaking: Gunmen abduct undergraduate, farmer in Ogun


 
A 400-level student of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management of Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Toyinbo Nathaniel Olayinka, has been abducted on Saturday from a farm at Abule-Itoko on the Abeokuta-Ibadan road in Odeda local hovernment area of Ogun state.
Olayinka was reportedly kidnapped alongside the owner of the private farm, identified as Dominic, and a 17-year-old Togolese lady.
The University’s Head of Public Relations directorate, Mr. Kola Adepoju, in a press statement made available to Blueprint said Abule Itoko where the student was reportedly abducted around 8am on Saturday was about 25 minutes drive from the University campus at Alabata, in Abeokuta, the state capital.


Adepoju noted that the victim has been living and working as a practicing livestock farmer for the past three years to sustain himself as a self sponsored indigent student of the University.
He affirmed that the management of the University has reported the abduction at Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran and its working with the command to ensure the safety and release of the kidnapped student.


Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that the student was abducted with a relative of the farm owner at the early hours of Saturday.


Oyeyemi stressed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun  has directed the anti-kidnapping unit led by the Area Commander to comb the forest for the possible rescue of the victims.
