A member representing Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok federal constituency of Borno state, Ahmadu Usman Jaha, has threatened to resign his membership of the House if urgent measures are not taken by the federal government to avert the festering security challenges in the state.
Jaha, who won the 2019 election on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), had last week raised a point of order at plenary on the despicable security challenges in his constituency and the need for the federal government to do the needful to restore hope there.
Speaking with Blueprint at the weekend, Jaha said he “cannot pretend to be living in my comfort zone while my constituents who took the risk, defiled the dangers and voted for me are dying in silence like animals.”
He explained that, three days preceding the attack on Garkida, a neighboring town in Borno, “Koiremgorum ward was attacked and the people were helpless as the insurgent who gathered somewhere were sighted with the intention of causing havoc to my constituency, but nothing was done to avert it.”
He said the military men created super camps to only shield themselves deliberately against Boko Haram insurgency and exposed the innocent citizens to attacks in the state.
Stating that the soldiers needed to carry the battle to the enemies doors, the lawmaker said “the troops remain in the ditch waiting for Boko Haram to come so that they can repel them. Staying in one location in the ditch for the Boko Haram to come so that they will repel is a very bad strategy,” Jaha stated.
The lawmaker said, if the situation is not addressed, he would be forced to resign because he cannot sit down and watch his people dying, querying: “For how long can we tolerate this kind of thing to continue?”
