The Borno state government has entered into partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO) with a view to constructing additional isolation centres in Biu and Maiduguri city to meet up with the increasing number of patients from contacts.
Chairman of the response committee on COVID-19 who is also the state deputy governor, Alhaji Usman Umar Kadafur, disclosed this Saturday evening during the daily media update on COVID-19 held at the Government House Maiduguri.
He also expressed concerns and over the increasing cases of the disease being treated at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and Brigadier General Abba Kyari Memorial Hospital Isolation Centers, noting that there was need for additional medical facilities to separate patients with mild symptoms from those with severe malady.
Kadafur reiterated the commitment of the committee and assured that it will discharge its responsibilities accordingly while admonishing the general public to wear face masks, observe hand washing and social distancing.
Borno state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aliyu Salihu Kwaya Bura on his part, assured that the COVID-19 patients were receiving proper attention as opposed to the rumour of negligence being peddled around.
The commissioner explained that all the 69 patients cases except one were in stable condition at the Nigerian Army, 7 Division Hospital in Pulka town.
He further said that 16 health workers have so far been recorded to have been infected with COVID-19 disease but the committee had already taken drastic measures to minimise the risk faced by the workers trying to control the disease.
