Borno: Lawmakers sympathises with victims of fire outbreak in Wanori IDPs camp

The member representing Dikwa, Mafa, and Konduga federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Abuna (BurBur), has sympathised  with victims of the devastating fire outbreak at Wanori Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Konduga local government area of Borno state.

In a statement signed by his media aide, in Maiduguri, Abuna extended his condolence to the victims, describing the incident a deeply sad and a painful blow to the vulnerable community.

According to reports, the fire incident, which occurred earlier today, wreaked havoc on the camp, destroying property worth millions of naira and leaving many families in a state of despair.

Hon. Abuna, in response, voiced his concern about the magnitude of the loss and the suffering endured by the affected households.

He acknowledged the harsh realities displaced persons faced and emphasised that such tragedies further worsened their living conditions.

The lawmaker called for immediate intervention from relevant authorities and humanitarian organisations to cushion the impact of the disaster.

He stressed the urgent need for emergency relief materials, including shelter, food, and medical support, to help the victims recover.

Hon. Abuna called for supports from governments, individuals, and NGOs, which he said were essential to provide a sense of hope and stability for the affected persons.

He, however, emphasised the importance of proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

He advocated for better fire safety awareness within IDP camps and the implementation of effective emergency response strategies.

According to him, such steps would not only protect lives and property but also restore a sense of security and dignity among displaced persons.

“It is truly heartbreaking to witness the loss of livelihoods and property in a community that has already suffered so much”.
