Borno govt trains 40 physically challenged persons

Borno state government has commenced a six-month training programme for 40 selected physically challenged persons in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The programme which is being organised and coordinates by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development at the blind school rehabilitation center Maiduguri yesterday inducted 40 selected physically challenges persons, including women for a six-month programme at N10,000 monthly allowance to each of the trainees.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Inna Galadima, disclosed this yesterday at the induction ceremony, while assuring that those who could not be successful in the selection would benefit next.

She also said government intended to review the monthly allowance given to then trainees in due course and improve on facilities at the center.
She said the training programme  would include tailoring, weaving, knitting, baking, welding, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and electronic as well as mechanical training amongst others.
The commissioner further said plans were under way for the establishment of zonal training centers in all the three senatorial zones of the state to cater for those outside the state capital.

Earlier, the permanent secretary in the ministry, Hajiya Ladi, had commended the efforts and concern of the state government in alleviating the sufferings and hardships of the physically challenged and poor in the society.
She also assured that the programme would be a continuous one till the government’s target of eradicating poverty was achieved.
