A bomb planted at a roadside on the Jigawa – Bauchi border has exploded and killed three soldiers while six others sustained various degrees of injury.
A source told Blueprint that the incident took place at Gwana Forest in Basirka, a border area between Gwaram local government area of Jigawa state and Bauchi state, when the soldiers were said to have been on security patrol of the area.
The source added that the incident occurred on Monday evening and that the affected soldiers were of the Military Join Task Force from neighbouring states of Jigawa, Bauchi and Gombe.
The roadside bomb that exploded was suspected to have been planted by criminals who had turned the forest into their hideout.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Abdul Jinjiri, confirmed the incident, but said it was within Bauchi state and, therefore, he could not give details.
“We don’t have details about the incident and we cannot say anything about it, because it is not within our jurisdiction,” he said.
