Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Malam Haruna Hamman Furo, has disclosed that the agency has so far recorded 102,560 IDPs across the 21 local government areas following incessant attacks by gunmen in the neighbouring states.

Furo made the disclosure during an interactive session with journalists in Yola.
He said the IDPs included those that were displaced within the state due to the insurgency, while the others were those that fled other conflict zones like Kaduna and Zamfara states.
Furo added that the issue of the IDPs was generating interesting developments as villages that had gone extinct were currently being reincarnated by the IDP.

He cited the example of Najore in Fufoure local government area which, he said, had gone extinct, but “has now been reincarnated by the IDPs.”
“In Fufoure local government, there was a village called Najore which had gone extinct, but is now fully rejuvenated. These settlers came from Zamfara and settled there while we have others in Girei,” he said.
He said the major challenge being faced by the agency was the daily influx of IDPs across the various centres in the state which led to the overstretching of facilities.

“Since the insurgency escalated, we have been receiving an influx of IDPs almost on daily basis which led to the overstretching of existing facilities such as toilets, water, and other essentials.”
He appreciated the effort of the state government, saying that it had alleviated the sufferings of the IDPs, adding that other international organisations like the UNICEF, the Red Cross and OCHA were doing great jobs in making life more meaningful to the IDPs.
