Boko Haram: ‘Media reports against Buratai, anti-national interest’

Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) Friday stated that the media quoted the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, out of context over his recent statement allegedly indicting soldiers for failing to curb insurgency.

The party in a statement signed by its national chairman, Charles Ogboli, particularly chastised The Sun newspapers over the report and urged Nigerians to discountenance it.

ANDP said the report was against the national interest, adding that it was concocted to weakening the morals of the Nigerian Soldiers who are prosecuting the war against the Boko Haram sect.

“The party believes that General Buratai must have been quoted out of context in order to portray the Chief of Army Staff and the as a whole as incompetent. The party posits that such publication casting the Army Chief in bad light is against the national interest and aimed at weakening the morals of soldiers.

“The party urges Nigerians to discountenance the publication as it is mischievous. In view of the above, we urge all Nigerians to support the Military and give them maximum encouragement having sacrificed their lives for the benefits of this country,” the statement read in part.
