In the face of increasing insecurity in the country and especially in the North-east, the federal government has been charged to ensure the safety of all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members across the nation.
Nigerian Young Professionals Forum (NYPF) in a statement signed by it northern region chairman, Alkasim Muhammad Zangina, yesterday gave the charge, saying that government at all levels must ensure that they guaranteed the safety of lives and property of corps members.
The statement said: “It is very important for government to protect this fresh graduate as they are the future young professionals that the nation will soon be proud of, looking at how they cut across all professions.”
He also advised the corps members to put the interest of the nation first while serving the country and be security conscious where they have been posted to discharge their primary assignment.
“As a fresh graduate and a corps member this is a privilege for you to serve your nation and an opportunity for you to practicalised what you learnt in school. And due to the problem of insecurity it is very significant for you to always be security conscious.
He also called for the protection of teachers, lecturers in the face of incessant bombing of colleges of education, which are the major institutions grooming teachers for pupils in both primary and secondary schools.
“It’s very important for government to protect colleges of education and other tertiary institutions across the nation from the problem of bomb blast and other criminalities affecting schools in the country, since the bright future of the nation lied on them.”
He urged parents to continue monitoring their children so as to prevent them from getting involved in acts that capable of destroying their future.”
