Boko Haram: Court threatens to dismiss case against Yusuf’s killers

A Federal High Court in Abuja has threatened to strike out the trial of five suspected killers of Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf.

The trial judge, Hon. Justice Evoh. S. Chukwu, handed down the warning yesterday at the resumed hearing of the matter.

He said: “This is the last time this court will entertain any form of delay from counsels in this case. Otherwise, the court will strike out the matter.”

Justice Chukwu, who was visibly angry at the failure of the prosecution counsel, Mr. R.M. Odabo, to produce the witness in court, ordered that the witness be produced at the next adjourned date.

Mr. Austin O. Atubu, who held the brief of Mr. Odabo, told the court that the witness was indisposed.
Angered by the prosecution’s explanation, Justice Chukwu ordered Mr. Odabo to produce the witness at the next adjourned date.
Yusuf and others were allegedly killed by some police officers, after they were handed over by the Nigerian Army, who earlier arrested them.
