Boko Haram: CDS attributes success to discipline, professionalism

 

Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, yesterday, attributed the victory recorded against the Boko Haram to the discipline and professionalism displayed by officers and men of the Nigerian Army.

Olonisakin, who spoke as Special Guest of Honour at the graduation of the 33 participants of the Army War College course 1/2017, assured his officers of government’s support to discharge their constitutional duties diligently.

He also called on them to always be loyal to the country’s democracy and the constituted authorities, warning that all officers are duty bound to be loyal to the higher authorities.

The CDS, however, urged the graduands to bring to bear the knowledge and training acquired in the course of their of studies in order to assist the military operations to maintain and sustain the territorial integrity of the country.

He said: “Training has played an important role in moulding, professionalising and having a disciplined Nigeria Army, which has been able to maintain the territorial integrity of this nation in fulfilment of its constitutional roles. This has led to the significant degrading of the Boko Haram capacities as well as ensuring security for our citizens against criminal elements.

“Government will continue to support the military with all the tools necessary to carry out its task in order to ensure that Nigeria’s territorial integrity is maintained and criminality reduced to the bearest minimum”.

Also, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, assured that the Military’s victory in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North East would be sustained and called on his officers to be more committed to their constitutional duties of protecting the country.

To this end, he disclosed that the Army War College Nigeria was established to develop the capacities of officers at the operational level, and called on the graduands to live up to the expectations and exude the high level of professionalism and training that the Nigerian Army is known for.

Earlier, the Commandant, Army War College Nigeria, Major-General A.G Okunlola, explained that the 33 pioneer graduates of the college were selected from the Nigerian Army, Navy and Airforce, for a 26-month intensive training to develop their capacities in operational art, which includes campaign planning and management of war.
