Bodija explosion: One dead, 11 victims on admission at UCH – CMD 

The Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Prof Jesse Otegbayo, Wednesday, confirmed one person dead and 11 victims of the Bodija explosion on admission at the hospital.

Prof Otegbayo who said this while speaking on the Tuesday night explosion also disclosed that no fewer than 16 buildings were affected at the hospital by the explosion.

The CMD declared that the victims sustained various degrees of injuries including major fractures, chest injuries among others, adding however that they are “all clinically stable”.

He maintained further that, “we believe that all of them will survive as our doctors, nurses and other medical officers are fully on ground to attend to victims of the explosion.

“We have been attending to victims of the explosion since yesterday night, we have to recall some of our medical officers on leave as well as those not on duty to come to duty and be attending to the victims.”

Speaking further, the CMD said 16 buildings in the hospital were affected by the vibration from the blast, including the School of Nursing, the hospital Museum, Pathology, School of Medical Laboratory, among others.

Prof Otegbayo stressed that the doors, roof, ceilings and electric fittings at the affected  buildings were brought down, destroyed and badly damaged.

The CMD maintained that as at the time of sending this report, the emergency unit of the hospital has been activated to accommodate victims from the explosion.
