Gun men suspected to Boko Haram terrorists yesterday night killed about 20 residents and injured dozens of others when the sect members invaded Uba town of Aksira/Uba Local Government area of Borno State.
The insurgents also set many houses and shops in the town on fire without confrontation by the security operatives.
Uba town of Borno state is located at about 75 kilometers away from Mubi town in Adamawa state, which was captured last week by the Boko Haram insurgents, is located in the southern part of Borno state along the Maiduguri- Michika- Yola Trunk A road and located in about 215 kilometres away from Maiduguri town, the capital of Borno state.
An eye witness, one Mohammed Abdulmuttallab, who is a resident of the area, told Blueprint on phone in Maiduguri that the Boko Haram insurgents stormed the Uba- Borno- Adamawa border town in a convoy of vehicles and bicycles.
According to Mohammed, “As they approached the Uba town, the news of their entry begin to circulate and people started fleeing the town into the bush and neighbouring villages of both Borno and Adamawa states”.
“And when they arrive, the Boko Haram terrorists started throwing locally improvised explosives into the people’s houses and shops, burgled some shops and carted away food items and money among others. After they left, we counted at least 20 people dead while many others were injured,” Mohammed said.
A vulcanizer with a shop and house by the main road of the town, who is also a resident of the town who does not want his name in print said “many people were killed, shops and houses set ablaze by the Boko Haram terrorists”.
