BH: Civil Defence ready to take over liberated areas – Spokesman

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured the federal government of its readiness to take over all the liberated areas initially occupied by the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists.

The Corps assured that already about 5,000 of its personnel for such task.

The federal government had on Monday said it would gradually withdraw military operations in some volatile spots that have attained normalcy in the country beginning from the first quarter of 2020.

Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe-Ibas announced this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the National Security Council meeting presided  by President Muhammadu Buhari.

But when Blueprint sought to know how ready is the NSCDC for the task, its national spokesman, Okeh Emmanuel, said his agency was 100 per cent ready for the task.

“The Corps is more than ready to take over the bastion of effective security in the country. 

“Prior to the recent announcement, the Corps had earlier trained 5,000 personnel to take over the liberated areas ravaged by insurgency in the North-east. The then Minister of Defence, Brig. Gen. Mohammoud Dan Ali Monsur (rtd) had mandated the trained corps personnel to take over these liberated areas from Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east.
