Benue State University (BSU) is set to confer degrees and diplomas on 17,925 graduands at its 22nd, 23rd, and 24th combined convocation ceremony.
According to Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu, Vice-Chancellor of BSU, at a press briefing held Thursday, the convocation will see 15,101 students receiving Bachelor’s degrees, 72 receiving Postgraduate Diplomas, 2,196 receiving Master’s degrees, and 556 receiving PhD degrees. Notably, 44 of the graduands earned First Class honors.
He said the university will also confer honorary doctorate degrees on six distinguished Nigerians, including Professor Toyin Falola, Engr. Sylvanus Ghasarah, and Chief, Barr. Paul Edeh, among others.
Professor Iorapuu expressed appreciation for the support of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), which has expended over N4.2 billion on infrastructure, procurement, and maintenance of facilities at the university in the last 18 months.
He noted that within the same period, three hundred and six million, two hundred and three thousand, three hundred and forty-nine-naira, fifteen kobo (306, 203, 349.15) only was expended on staff training, conference attendance, funding of research and publications.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the visitor of the institution Governor of Benue state Hycinth Alia and the Benue State Assembly, the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, and other individuals who have supported the university.
He said the combined convocation ceremony will mark a significant milestone for the university, which has grown from four faculties in 1992 to 14 faculties currently.
