Benue police gun down notorious kidnapper, rescue 10 victims




The Benue State Police Monday gunned down a notorious kidnap suspect and rescued 10 victims, including Obadiah Otito, a doctor with the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi and owner of Hope Hospital.

Dr. Otito was kidnapped on May 13, 2023 at Judges Quarters while heading for work.

Briefing newsmen Monday at the Police  Command Headquarters in Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police Julius Okoro Alawari said on 13/05/2023 about 19:00 hours, information was received that Dr. Etito Obadiah, a medical doctor with Federal Medical Center, Makurdi was kidnapped at Judges Quarters and his Kidnappers had started negotiation for ransom.

According to him, during investigation, a team of Operation Zenda JTF trailed the kidnappers to their hide out at Gaya Village, Utange council ward in Kastina Ala local government area of Benue state.

He noted that on sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged them in a gun duel that claimed the life of one of the kidnappers, while three suspects were arrested and others escaped into a nearby bush with bullet wounds while 10 kidnap victims, including the doctor were rescued unhurt.

The commissioner also said on 20/05/2023 at about 13:45hrs information was received at Otukpo Police Division that an unknown corpse was seen at Edikwu River bank with internal organs removed and a team of detectives were deployed to the area for investigation.

He said during investigation, it was revealed that the lifeless body was one Babatunde Moses, 29, who was last seen sitting with his friends in a burial ceremony.

“The following suspects have been arrested in connection with the case; Idoko Omoru, Eze Emmanuel, Obande Emmanuel, Ameh Peter, and Sunday. Investigation is ongoing to unravel the mystery behind the death and removal of internal organs,” he added. 

CP Okoro assured the state of his commitment to make sure that the good people of Benue State sleep with their eyes closed.
