The Commissioner of Police, Benue state command, Mr. Hyacinth Dagala, has said that the joint Security Council in the state had concluded arrangements to ensure that all political office seekers signed a peace accord.
He stated that the peace pact became imperative considering the level of desperation exhibited by adherents of some of the political parties in the state.
The Commissioner was speaking in response to questions from a group of journalists in an interactive section on Tuesday in Makurdi, the state capital.
He maintained that the lack of political maturity displaced by some of the political actors had necessitated the idea of signing of the accord which must be observed “before, during and after the general elections.”
He also said that the command has prosecuted more than 20 cases of political thuggery in the last few weeks which he attributed to lack of political ideas from the active players.
The police boss noted that politicians were themselves the causes of violent attacks visited on their opponents through their actions and inactions as seen in some cases.
Dagala warned that the command would not tolerate any act by politicians that would undermine the breach of law as well as the relative peace enjoyed by the people.
He appealed to the general public to continue to cooperate with the police and other security agencies in the fight against criminal elements in the society.
