Benue:  Police arrest 4 in connection with Justice Igbetar’s murder 


Benue State Police Command Tuesday paraded suspects arrested in connection with the murder of the former President of the Benue State Customary Court, Justice Margaret Mary Igbetar (rtd).


Justice Igbetar’s corpse was discovered in her residence on August 24, 2023, two days after she was killed.


The suspected killers of Justice Igbetar included one Aondohemba Joseph, a nephew of the deceased, Gbidye, 63, and one Dzungwenen Ukor, 40, broke into the Makurdi residence of the deceased on August 22, 2023 with the aid of one Akuhwa Barnabas, 32, a driver to the deceased and killed her in cold blood.


Briefing newsmen at the Police command headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka, said the case was reported on the 24th of August, 2023 and his men swung to action and arrested one Aondohemba Joseph, a nephew to the deceased.


He said a more detailed investigation started when the case was transferred from the Police E Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and handed over to the Operation Zenda investigative team to continue.


“The suspect, who eventually confessed to have planned and recruited other people to help him in killing his aunty, led a team of detectives to Adikpo, Kwande local government area where the following suspects were arrested; Igbazenda Gbidye, 63, and Dzungwenen Ukor, 40,” he said.
